Defence to receive significant increase in spending

Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed the increase in resources for the defence forces in budget 2023.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “I have been raising the issues facing defence force personnel and their families for many years, and I was pleased with the publication of the commission on the defence force report earlier in the year, and I have been fighting hard to see an increased investment in our defence forces.”

“I am pleased to see our defence forces receiving a significant increase in investment of €67 million, to nearly €1.2 billion.”

“This allocation will include increases to pay and allowances for serving members of the defence forces. In order to deliver the transformation called for in the commission on the defence forces, this funding will also see the establishment of new transformation led positions to lead this change.”

“In addition, the capital allocation will be increased by 25% to €176 million.”

Fiona concluded by saying “Defence is a core issue to us in South Kildare and I am pleased to see budget 2023 delivering additional resources for our defence forces.”
