€50 in funding to improve the waste water needs of rural villages

Kildare South based Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed the announcement by her colleague the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien TD of €50 million to improve wastewater needs for rural villages.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “Development in some rural areas is stifled due to a complete lack of wastewater infrastructure. Ensuring that our wastewater infrastructure is fit for purpose is key.”

“The scheme will now open to Local Authorities for application and will stay open for applications until September 15th.”

“This new measure will provide 85% exchequer funding through the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, with the remaining 15% in funding coming from the relevant local authority.”

Fiona concluded by saying “Improved wastewater services will enable us to build more sustainable villages, settlements and communities.”
