€6.85m in additional funding to support the most educationally disadvantaged in Ireland

Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed the announcement that €6.85m has been granted to provide funding to support educationally disadvantaged learners in accessing and participating in community education under the Mitigating against Educational Disadvantage Fund (MAEDF).

Senator O’Loughlin said, “I am pleased to see my Government Colleagues allocating €6.85m to support educationally disadvantaged learners in accessing and participating in community education under the Mitigating against Educational Disadvantage Fund.”

“I am and have always been a passionate advocate for equality within education. I fundamentally believe that every person has an equal right to access a high quality of education regardless of their circumstances.”

Fiona concluded “The increase in funding is also most welcome. €5.8 million was allocated in 2020, the increase is in recognition of the complexities brought on by the continuance of the pandemic.”
