European Digital Green Certificate raised in the Seanad

I spoke in the Seanad on Friday, May 7th about ensuring a safe return to travel for business, leisure and for a chance for families to reconnect.

The uptake in vaccinations has been really high and the rollout of the Digital Green Certificate is particularly important at this time as a result. The Cert is digital proof that a person has either been vaccinated, received a negative test result or recovered from Covid 19. In terms of public health, keeping people safe and trying not to interfere with people’s fundamental right to freedom. This Greencert strikes a balance as it not only shows the vaccination but it also shows test results and recovery and in particular for those who do not wish to take the vaccine. Ireland is getting ready to open for business and society with ourselves and with the world. Last week would have been the Punchestown Races in Kildare and we would have welcomed people from around the world. It is so important that we stress that these Digital Greencerts are not vaccination passports and are open to all.
