The Fianna Fáil organisation in South Kildare put their full weight behind local Senator Fiona O’Loughlin to contest the upcoming General Election.
At the party’s convention on Friday night, Senator O’Loughlin was affirmed as the Party’s sole candidate to fight the next General Election.
O’Loughlin said “I am humbled to have been uncontested and am very encouraged to have the unwavering support of my family, friends and the party members. It is a privilege to have received the support and endorsement of so many local people.”
“As a Party Fianna Fáil have taken on the big challenges in our State, and we are delivering real, measurable, and realistic changes. From housing where we have seen in excess of 8500 homes built in Kildare since 2020, to education, where I as education spokesperson I have worked with Minister Foley to help deliver free schoolbooks, hot school meals, anti-bullying initiatives, extra supports for children with additional needs and a school transport review. I have also worked closely with Minister Stephen Donnelly on women’s health matters, Minister Mary Butler on expanding Dementia supports and Ministers Jack Chambers and James Lawless on delivering fairer fares for local commuters.”
“The trust between public representatives and citizens must be re-built, and that can only be done through honest and transparent politics. We are not a party that seeks to divide communities for political gain, we do not jump on every populist bandwagon- we deal with the issues, as they are, head on.”
Speaking on her priorities for the next Dáil Fiona said “If I am successful in the next election, I will prioritise the building of sustainable safe communities. We need to see action in the area of anti-social behaviour and how it is dealt with, the bar is too high in my view. It is a scourge on many neighbourhoods and tackling it must be our prime focus.”
“The Curragh is a real jewel in the crown of Kildare. I have called, and if elected to the next Oireachtas will continue to call for, heritage protections for the Curragh.”
“Improving our infrastructure is also vital, from advancing the second bridge for Newbridge, to improving access to second level school places and improving the transport apparatus of our towns. As well as continuing the strong investment in local sports infrastructure and pushing for a dedicated sports campus for Newbridge.”
O’Loughlin concluded “I look forward to fighting the next General Election and to delivering for our area thereafter.”
