O’Loughlin welcomes €40 million Summer Programme 2023 alongside a review of the programme

Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed a €40 million Summer Programme for 2023 alongside a review of the programme.

A summer programme will be in place for 2023 for pupils with complex special educational needs and those at greatest risk of educational disadvantage. Once again all schools will have an opportunity to run a programme for those children that need it the most so that we can support them in engaging with education in a meaningful way.

This year, over 45,000 pupils will have participated in the summer programme, with over 1,000 schools running a programme. This is an increase of approximately 18% in the 2021 number of participating students.

Commenting on the Summer Programme for 2023, Senator O’Loughlin said, “I’m delighted to see this early provision for the summer programme of 2023. This is an important programme which allows schools to run a programme for pupils with complex special educational needs and those at the greatest risk of educational disadvantage.

“It’s important we continue to strive for better education for those children with special educational needs and this early announcement will give schools and students across Kildare certainty as they look ahead to Summer 2023.”
