“Planning permission application shows confidence in our ability to deliver a second bridge for Newbridge”- Senator Fiona O’Loughlin

Kildare’s most senior Senator and Newbridge resident Fiona O’Loughlin has said that the application by Aston Limited to build a second bridge in Newbridge – without the council having yet secured the funds to do so, shows their confidence that we will deliver the funding.

Fiona said “We all know that the major traffic and congestion issues are caused by the lack of a second bridge. Sourcing funding for a second bridge is something I have been working closely with Minister Darragh O’Brien to deliver.”

“This new bridge which I have repeatedly called for, is not just for the benefit of Newbridge residents, although that is important, it is a vital aspect of the wider Newbridge South Orbital Relief Road (NSORR) project. A key infrastructural development for the whole county.”

“I met recently with Minister O’Brien and I communicated the urgency of this project and I believe that we need to see the Department of Local Government and Kildare County Council need to work together in a close and collaborative manner to drive this project forward, and the Minister committed to this.”

O’Loughlin concluded “I am hopeful that Kildare Co Council will be more successful with its next Urban Renewal Development Fund (URDF) application, and I will be doing everything in my power to support this.”
