Redevelopment of St Paricks Park raised once again -Senator Fiona O’Loughlin

Kildare based Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has again raised the redevelopment project at St Patricks Park in Rathangan.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “This saga has been going on for over a decade, and it is simply not acceptable that we are still raising this issue. I have been raising it in Kildare County Council during my time as a Councillor, in the Dail and now in the Seanad.”

“In 2011, it was decided that there would be a regeneration project for the area. Kildare County Council are advancing the refurbishment of St. Patrick’s Park, Rathangan, including an element of additional, new build social housing. They have advised that Phase 1, which involves the refurbishment of 34 homes, was completed in October 2019, which is welcome. But that was eight years later, it seems to be moving at a glacial pace.”

“I am pleased that finally a design team has been appointed and is progressing the scheme with the intention, to consult with residents further and seek Part 8 planning approval in mid-2022.”

Fiona concluded by saying “While it is welcome to see this progressing, we have children who were born 15 years ago who will be moving out by the time the regeneration is complete, we absolutely need a better system.”
