Senator Fiona O’Loughlin calls on Minister Eamon Ryan to establish a medium hop zone for South Kildare

Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has called on Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan to establish as medium hop zone for South Kildare

Senator O’Loughlin said, “I reiterated my call directly to Minister Eamon Ryan in the Senate for a medium hop zone to be established for us in South Kildare.”

“We all know people who are travelling from Newbridge, Kildare and Portarlington to Sallins to access public transport because it’s a short hop zone, making it a third of price that they would pay in their community. Its 6km down the road, it makes absolutely no sense to have such a disparity in price.”

“I welcome the temporary 20% reduction in public transport fares that will apply from April until the end of the year, and that is welcome and will make an impact, but we need to ensure that we do not continue to have a crazy situation where people need to drive to short hop zones to access affordable public transport. It flies in the face of our efforts to reduce carbon emissions.”

Fiona concluded “We also need to see greater investment in our local link services in South Kildare  so that people in rural areas can use public transport to access the hop zones. I will continue to raise that at every opportunity.”
