Senator Fiona O’Loughlin receives clarity on the future of Cathal Brugha Barracks

Newbridge based Senator Fiona O’Loughlin called out the premature announcement in relation to the future of Cathal Brugha Barracks and received absolute clarity on the future of the barracks in the Seanad today.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “We are honored to be home to so many phenomenal defence force personnel and their families. We have the headquarters in Kildare and one of the finest military barracks this country has ever had, and they have added an immeasurable amount to our local communities over the years.”

“So, to see a Minister, who has no military or defence portfolio, take to twitter and essentially announce the closure of Cathal Brugha Barracks, with no forewarning, no fore planning, was not just an insult to personnel at Cathal Brugha Barracks and the families that live there, but to the entire defence force.”

Fiona concluded “I am pleased that Minister Coveney came into the Seanad to take my commencement. He made it very clear that no decision has been to relocate the operations currently at Cathal Brugha barracks.”
