Senator Fiona O’Loughlin reminds Artists to apply for Basic Income for the Arts pilot Scheme

Kildare Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has reminded people that the closing date for applications for the Basic Income for the Arts Scheme is 1pm on Thursday the 12th of May 2022.

Speaking on why it would be beneficial for artists to apply, Senator O’Loughlin said, “This is a great scheme that will examine the impact of basic income for artists over a three-year period. It is extra important since the pandemic to recognise the important role arts plays here in Ireland. We are an island full of talented artists and this scheme will provide a source of income for them.”

“After all applications have been received, 2,000 eligible artists and creative arts workers will be selected at random and receive payments of €325 per week.”

Senator O’Loughlin concluded by saying “We have so many talented artists in South Kildare and they have faced such challenges over the last number of years. I have been calling for more to be done to support the arts. I urge anyone eligible to apply before the closing date and wish them the best of luck in being selected.”
