Senator Fiona O’Loughlin welcomes changes to the CAO portal

Minister Niall Collins TD announces important changes as CAO website enhanced to include further education and training options

The Minister has announced enhancements to the Central Applications Office website to include Further Education and Apprenticeship options for school leavers.

Senator O’Loughlin said “This is a really important development and is the first time that the full range of third level options will be visible to school-leavers from one single platform. This will give our students a one stop shop for all educational opportunities and supports the idea that education is for everyone and there is no right or wrong way to gain skills or expertise.”

“The CAO website went live at 12pm today. There is more than 650 PLC courses available via the weblink and a one-stop-shop for information and guidance on national apprenticeships will be available via a link on cao.ie/options with information on how to become an apprentice, what you will earn while you learn, and the qualifications you will achieve.”

Fiona concluded “I have been campaigning for a more inclusive education system for most of my career, and I think this is a significant step forward. We need to ensure that our students have all of the information to hand to make an informed decision. University or college is not for everyone, and it is not the only option. There is a plethora of different options out there, and so many ways to enter the job market you desire, but it needs to be explained in a simple and accessible way- and this move does that”
