Senator Fiona O’Loughlin welcomes supports for the Post Office Network

Fianna Fail Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed the announcement of €30 million over 3 years to support a sustainable, nationwide Post Office network.

Senator O’Loughlin said, ” This announcement by Government is very welcome. Post offices play a vital role in our local communities, especially in rural areas.”

“Our post office networks have been facing huge challenges in recent years, and we have seen a decline, especially in our rural communities. Today’s announcement is a first-time that Government will provide direct financial support to postmasters who operate much of the network.”

“This announcement will support the existing network of approximately 900 post offices. In particular, the aim is to safeguard the most vulnerable post offices – to protect access to services across the country.”

Fiona concluded by saying “Post masters are ready to transform their operations and want to offer a wide range of financial and community supports. They are the heartbeat of many rural towns and villages and I am pleased to see funding being made available to support them in their roles.” -ENDS
