Senator Fiona O’Loughlin welcomes the announcement of over €132,000.00 for South Kildare under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme

Newbridge based Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed today’s announcement that €132,390.00 have been allocated to South Kildare under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “I am pleased to see €87,390.00 being allocated to Moore Abbey Woods and €45,000.00 being approved to upgrade the Old Kilcullen Heritage Trail.”

“The €87,390.00 in funding allocated to Moore Abbey Woods today will be used to establish walking and cycling infrastructure between Monasterevin and Moore Abbey woods, and this will hopefully increase footfall and increase the community’s access to this lovely public amenity.”

“The Old Kilcullen Heritage Trail will also benefit from today’s announcement, with €45,000.00 being made available to connect the heritage sites, and to improve the paths at the location to make it easier for visitors to tour the site”

Fiona concluded “Throughout the pandemic, we all got a renewed sense of appreciation for our local amenity spaces. There is no doubt that the pandemic highlighted some glaring gaps in our local infrastructure, so I am pleased to see the Government making funding available to tackle some of these deficiencies”
