Fianna Fáils Deputy Leader in the Seanad and Chair of the Oireachtas Womens Caucus Senator Fiona O’Loughlin will attend and welcome the Taoiseachs unveiling of the Third National Strategy on Domestic Sexual and Gender-Based Violence 2022-2026.
Senator O’Loughlin said, “I look forward to engaging with the Taoiseach, Minister McEntee at the launch of Third National Strategy on Domestic Sexual and Gender-Based Violence 2022-2026. This will see a doubling of sentences for assault and a 100 per cent increase in refuge places. This will see the number of refuge spaces increase from 141 to 280 and ensure no county is without safe places for women to flee.”
“As Chair of the Oireachtas Womens Caucus I have been engaging with colleagues on a myriad of issues especially issues around gender and domestic violence. The doubling of refuge places is an absolutely vital aspect of this plan, and without adequate refuge supports many victims simply cannot leave.”
“There will be 144 actions included in today’s report especially there will be an increased focus on hearing the experiences of children living with domestic violence. Children are hugely impacted by the environment they are exposed to and ensuring that the children impacted are protected and supported will be so important.”
Fiona concluded “This plan will focus on four key “pillars” – protection, prevention, prosecution and policy co-ordination. I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver this plan.”
