Young people in care and how they transition at the age of 18 raised in Seanad

Earlier today, Tuesday, May 25 I spoke on young people in care in Ireland especially the transition from foster parents at the age of 18 and life after that.

I was honoured to reflect on the late and inspirational Shane Griffin and his work with Wayne Dignam in setting up the care leavers network – which advocates for greater supports for those leaving care at 18 years of age. It is a mark of great respect to Shane’s legacy that the Cork Life Centre have renamed their centre after Shane.

It is my view that If foster families and foster child mutually agree on the continuation of that support, it should be available to them.
