Agri-Climate Rural Environment scheme welcomed by Senator O’Loughlin

Fianna Fáil Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed the announcement by her colleague the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue of the Agri-Climate Rural Environment scheme.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “This is a really significant investment in our long-term rural environment with €1.5bn being invested in the scheme between 2023 and 2027. It will replace the Green, Low-Carbon Agri Environmental Scheme (GLAS) when the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) begins in 2023.”

“This will be the strongest funded agri environment scheme to date at €300 million per year and will support our farmers and indeed us all on our climate journey.”

“This fund will target up to 50,000 farmers with payments of up to €10,500 being made available.”

Fiona concluded “Schemes such as this show us the benefits of our climate transformation agenda with the scheme being funded through the EU and Carbon Tax Receipts.”
