Athy Distributor Road Funding Approval

Fianna Fail Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has welcomed the announcement that Kildare County Council received approval from the Department of Transport to award the contract for the construction of the Athy Distributor Road.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “I am pleased that Kildare County Council is committed to implementing enhancements in Athy, including Emily square and that these improvements, which include the removal of traffic from the main street and the linking of active travel provision, will be completed by the Council alongside the Distributor Road”

“It will be great to take the traffic from the town centre and should open up new areas for industrial and commercial development”

“The Southern Distributor road will give Athy room to breath, and will help reduce congestion in the town”

Fiona concluded “This is great news for Athy and for the surrounding areas. The distributor road will improve the traffic management situation in Athy and will improve the quality of life for the people of Athy and the surrounding areas”
