Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has called on the Minister for Heritage to intervene to expedite the reopening of Carragh Bridge

Newbridge based Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has written to the Minister for Heritage Darragh O’Brien TD and Minster of State Malcolm Noonan asking for them to expedite the approval of works on Carragh Bridge.

Senator O’Loughlin said, “A resolution to the Carragh Bridge closure needs to be found as soon as possible to allow the bridge to re-open.”

“As the bridge is a national monument the Minister for Heritage needs to give formal permission for necessary works to be carried out. This approval needs to be given quickly to ensure that the bridge can reopen in a timely manner.”

“The closure is not just affecting local residents in Carragh, but the lack of traffic and passing trade is negatively impacting local businesses. We need to see the bridge back in uses urgently.”

Fiona concluded “I have written to my Government colleague Minister Darragh O’Brien and Minister of State Noonan to ask that the necessary approvals be granted as soon as possible. Kildare Count Council are assessing work and seeking tenders, so we need the approval to progress the works.”
